Gadson, Moreno college careers to date

Kyven Gadson and Michael Moreno have two of the most stacked resumes on ISU wrestling’s roster this season. The two redshirt seniors hope to add a big addition to those resumes this season — a national title.

In their final season as Cyclones, they look to achieve the ultimate goal. Here are their resumes going into the season:

Kyven Gadson, ranked No. 3 at 197 lbs. by FloWrestling.

High school career: Two-time Iowa state champion for Waterloo East High School. Career record of 113-12

Freshman: Redshirted season

Redshirt freshman: Injured his shoulder in first match of the season and missed the remainder of the season

Redshirt sophomore: 2013 Big 12 Champion, 2013 All-American with a sixth place finish at the NCAA tournament, AWN Comeback Wrestler of the Year, AWN Courage Award.

Redshirt junior: 2014 Big 12 Champion, 2014 All-American with a fourth place at the NCAA tournament, became 39th two-time All-American in ISU history.

Michael Moreno, ranked No. 4 at 165 lbs. by FloWrestling

High school career: Career record of 154-13, 43-0 en route to a state championship his senior year for Urbandale High School.

Freshman: Redshirted season.

Redshirt freshman: Finished season with a record of 4-13. 

Redshirt sophomore: Finished season with a record of 31-10, claimed All-American honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA tournament.

Redshirt junior: 2014 Big 12 runner-up, 2014 All-American with a fifth place finish at the NCAA tournament. 

Additionally, Gadson and Moreno made history by becoming the first father-son All-American duos in Iowa State history.

Kyven Gadson’s father, the late Willie Gadson, won All-American honors in 1975 and 1976, and Michael Moreno’s father, Mike Moreno, won All-American honors in the 1992 season.
