Freshman Allen Lazard embraces redshirt senior Jarvis West after West scored a touchdown during the game against Kansas State on Sept. 6 at Jack Trice Stadium. The Cyclones led for much of the game but couldn’t maintain their lead in the second half, and the Wildcats won 32-28. Jarvis scored two touchdowns for the Cyclones.

Jarvis West: Easily the player of the game, West hauled in 8 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. And those are just his receiving stats. West was responsible for the 82-yard punt return touchdown that gave Iowa State the go-ahead score in the second quarter to put the game at 14-13. West also showed off his throwing arm, taking a reverse and finding Allen Lazard in the end zone for the true freshman’s first touchdown catch of his career. West is the first player since 2010 to have a receiving touchdown, passing touchdown and return for a touchdown. The last person to do it was Kentucky’s Randall Cobb.

Sam Richardson: Against Kansas State, Richardson looked calm in the pocket, completing 21 of 30 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown. Richardson also went on a streak of 14 straight completions. The streak ended on a dropped pass.

Jake Waters: A Council Bluffs, Iowa, native, Waters was Kansas State’s top performer. On the ground, Waters rushed 20 times and racked up 143 yards and two touchdowns, one of which was the go-ahead late in the fourth quarter. He was also 16-29 through the air on the day and finished with 239 yards.

Tyler Lockett: Kansas State’s standout receiver proved why he’s one of the best in the conference. He caught six balls for 136 yards, including a 57-yard throw.
