For the second time in the season’s first three weeks, a member of the ISU volleyball team earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Freshman middle blocker and outside hitter Alexis Conaway is this week’s recipient of the award, the Big 12 announced Sept. 15.

The Orange City, Iowa, native put up career numbers in last weekend’s Diet Coke Classic and broke an ISU record in the process.

In Sept. 12’s match-up with Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Conaway registered one solo block and four block assists, but the best was yet to come.

Conaway’s 11 block assists against Tulsa on Sept. 13 set a new freshman record at Iowa State. It was the highest single-match output in the Big 12 this year. She followed up that performance with another six block assists against No. 19 Minnesota later that night.

Her average of 2.0 blocks per set also led the conference last week.

ISU libero Caitlin Nolan also took home the same award on Sept. 1 for her play in the season’s opening weekend.
