After an offensive explosion that saw the Cyclones score five goals in their season-opening win against Mississippi State on Aug. 22, the offense went cold Aug. 24 against Ole Miss.

Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick scored by the Rebels goalkeeper Kelly McCormick in the 25th minute of the contest.

The remainder of the game was a defensive struggle. Neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the way, resulting in ISU soccer’s first loss of the season.

The Cyclones had a number of attacking chances in the second half, but they ultimately came up empty.  Andrea Swanson played well in the net, surrendering only one goal on a penalty kick.

The Cyclones (1-1, 0-0) will face off against University of Southern California in South Bend, Ind. on Aug. 29.
