The injury woes that plagued the ISU offensive line in 2013 have continued into fall camp.

On Aug. 4, backup center Ben Loth collapsed with an apparent left knee injury. ISU coach Paul Rhoads said on Aug. 8 that the injury is career-ending for Loth.

“It’s a serious knee injury that will require surgery and unfortunately will be a career ending injury for Ben Loth,” Rhoads said. “The MCL is so severely damaged that it will require surgery.”

Loth, a 6-foot-6-inch, 327-pound senior, saw the field nine times on a ISU offensive line that was so riddled with injuries that it used nine different lineups in 12 games.

Rhoads went on to say that redshirt junior Jamison Lalk will now be the No. 2 center behind Tom Farniok. Lalk is also the No. 2 left guard on the depth chart.

“Lalk moves to center and we move forward,” Rhoads said. “Injuries are a part of the game, unfortunately.”

Rhoads said that no other players suffered any injuries during the first week of fall camp.
