President Steven Leath will announce his decision on the future of Veishea at a news conference on Aug. 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Union, according to a news release from the university news service.

The Veishea Task Force, which was created in April after President Leath suspended the 2014 celebration, submitted its recommendation about the future of the event to Leath on July 11. It recommended that Veishea be discontinued in its current form, but Iowa State should hold a university-wide event with a name other than Veishea.

Possible alternatives to the current form of Veishea that the task force suggested included having a university-wide event but splitting it up among multiple weekends.

The one of the biggest concerns of the task force was shifting the focus of the event away from a party atmosphere and more toward celebrating the accomplishments of students and staff of the university.
