TV Review: Game of Thrones

Jeff Lechner

What a send off for Game of Thrones season four. I mean they really saved the best for last, and in a season as good as this one that’s really saying something. There were just so many great moments in this episode I’m not sure I could include all of them even if I wasn’t trying to remain spoiler free.

This a surprisingly big episode for a Game of Thrones season finale which traditionally has had its penultimate episode be the big game changer. There was also a surprising amount of action this week which, in the past, has generally been reserved for the seasons penultimate episode. One highlight was particularly epic one-on-one brawl that I won’t discuss further so as not to spoil it for those haven’t watched yet.

This was also one of the most show altering episodes in the series, possibly even more so than the Red Wedding. Nearly every character has been sent in a different direction or will be starting a new story arc. Several of the location based story-arcs will also irrevocably and fundamentally different going into next season. This episode was definitely a shake-up on all fronts, and I can’t imagine that the show as a whole won’t be very different next season considering how big some of the changes in this episode and this season.

This was just a great episode all around, and a fantastic way to cap off the season. This show just continues to get better and better which is great news for viewers. Unfortunately the downside of this is that the wait for next season is just that much more frustrating. That being said I’m still quite excited to see for next season and to see where they take the show from here.
