Jeremiah George is no longer a Cyclone. As of Saturday afternoon, he is officially a New York Jet.

The former ISU inside-linebacker was drafted by the Jets organization with the 14th pick of the fifth round. George was the 154th overall pick of the 2014 draft and the first Cyclone taken off the board.

George is the newest addition to a defense that has been lauded in recent years as being one of the best in the NFL.

While the Jets organization has struggled over the last two seasons, the defense has remained strong under head coach Rex Ryan, who was the architect of the Super Bowl-winning Baltimore Raven defense in 1999-2000.

It appears likely that George will fit in well in New York, considering his specific skills as highlighted by scouting reports on ESPN.com.

According to those reports, George’s most desirable attributes to NFL teams are his intangibles as a leader.

Scouts also praised George’s durability. George’s biggest injury concern in his four years as a Cyclone came in the form of a hamstring injury that preceded his senior season, but did not force him to miss any games, nor affect his production.

George tallied 133 tackles, three and a half sacks and two interceptions in his 12 games as a senior in 2013.

Finally, scouts lauded George’s mind. His ability to recognize offensive calls, stay aware in pass coverage and rarely fall for play-action fakes or other misdirections, all make George highly valuable as an NFL player.
