The ISU men’s track and field team sent athletes to two different locations this weekend.

The majority of the team headed south to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Alumni Gold meet while Edward Kemboi was sent west to Walnut, Calif. to be apart of the Mt. Sac Relays. The Mt. Sac Relays were an elite invitational meet for Kemboi’s race, the 800-meter run.

In Kemboi’s outdoor season debut, he took fifth overall in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:46.14. The mark made Kemboi the second college athlete to cross the line in the race, only behind Mississippi State’s Brandon McBride, who posted a time of 1:45.35.

Kemboi was just .08 seconds off of his personal best and program record of 1:46.06 in the event. He currently holds the second-fastest time in the NCAA with that performance.

In Baton Rouge, Ivan Tamba started things off on the right foot with a personal best in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 10.90. Jared Ingram was close behind in 10.98.

Ryan Sander placed 10th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.39.

Derek Jones took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 52.19.

Brandon Barnes notched an outdoor best in the 800-meter run. He completed the race in 1:52.73, nearly a full second faster than his previous outdoor mark (1:53.71).

The Cyclones return to the track this week at the Drake Relays, held April 23 through 27 in Des Moines.
