Iowa State softball falls to Omaha 3-2

The Iowa State softball dropped its record to 20-22 on the season with a 3-2 loss to Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday night in Ames.

Iowa State fell behind Omaha in the first inning 2-0 after a base hit by the Mavericks’ designated hitter Lizzie Noble.

The Mavericks scored another run in the fourth inning on a base hit by Tara Trede to give Omaha a 3-0 lead.

Iowa State scored its two lone runs in the back-to-back innings starting in the fourth.

The first ISU run came in after a double by Jorden Spendlove brought in catcher Rachel Hartman all the way from first base.

The second of the Cyclones’ scores came in the fifth inning when Sara Davsion reached second base on her second double of the game. Davison scored the second run when Aly Cappaert singled to left field.

Iowa State was unable to tie the game in the sixth and seventh innings, stranding three runners on base during the final two innings.

The Cyclones will take on South Dakota next Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. in Ames.
