The Iowa State softball team dropped both games of Friday’s doubleheader against Texas losing the first game 19-6 in five innings and 2-0 in game two. The losses brought Iowa State’s record to 18-20 overall and 1-7 in the Big 12 this season.

In the first game of the day, the Cyclones fell behind the Longhorns early, and after giving up the first run on a bases loaded hit by pitch in the first inning, Texas exploded for eight more in the second with the help of a grand slam by shortstop Taylor Thom.

The ISU offense in the first game was led by freshman Rachel Hartman who hit her third home run of the season.

The second game of the doubleheader was a much tighter contest.

The game was tied at 0-0 through the first six innings. Texas took the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh by catcher Mandy Ogle. Iowa State failed to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh.

The Cyclones and Longhorns close out the series at 12 p.m. Saturday.
