The ISU softball team turned around its luck Saturday afternoon at the Shocker Softball Classic.

On Friday, Iowa State had a devastating loss 10-1 to San Diego.

Just one day later, Iowa State played North Dakota and won 13-2 in just five innings.

Right off the bat, the Cyclones came out swinging. At the start of the second inning, Iowa State scored eight runs. North Dakota couldn’t keep up in the second inning giving Iowa State a 9-1 lead.

By the fifth inning the Cyclones were up 13-2 forcing the game to end.

Sophomore outfielder Brittany Gomez finished Saturday with a 4-for-4 at the plate. This was Gomez’s fourth time going 4-for-4 at the plate as well as her second time doing this in the last eight days. Gomez has now set a career high of four stolen bases in just one day.

The Iowa State was set to play Kansas City Saturday but the game was cancelled because of weather issues.

In the final day of the Shocker Softball Classic, Iowa State came to play against Wichita State.

At the beginning of the game it looked like Iowa State had it in the bag. At the bottom of the fifth the Cyclones were ahead 11-5 against Wichita State. By the end of the fifth, however, Wichita State had caught up and surpassed Iowa State by two runs.

In the final stretch of the game, Iowa State tried to catch up to Wichita State. In the end, Iowa State could not keep up and allowed five runs in the bottom of the 6th.

The Cyclones were not done trying to catch up though. At the top the 7th, Gomez hit a single letting in two runs by senior pinch runner Liana Henry and junior infielder Jordan Spendlove.

This proved to be not enough. Iowa State had a hard loss 18-16 against Wichita State.

The Cyclones record is now 15-6. They will play next weekend at the Louisville Classic.
