The ISU softball team closed out the weekend at the Class Act Federal Credit Union Classic with two close losses against a pair of Big Ten opponents.

The Cyclones lost to Wisconsin 6-3 March 15, falling to 16-8 on the season. Iowa State fell behind early and was unable to overcome the deficit.

An error by the Badgers allowed the Cyclones to bring it within one run before Wisconsin scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly and error by Iowa State.

The Cyclones faced up against No. 7 Michigan on March 16, hoping to bounce back from March 15’s loss.

Sophomore Brittany Gomez — who recorded a school-record 48th career stolen base — led the Cyclones.

The Wolverines manufactured three runs in the sixth inning to make the score 6-2, proving to be too costly for Iowa State.

The Cyclones were able to score two runs to bring it to 6-4 before being shutout in the seventh.

Iowa State fell to 16-9 on the season. The team will take on its third Big Ten opponent in as many games facing Nebraska on March 19 in Lincoln, Neb.
