ISU men’s track wraps up weekend of competition

Five athletes traveled to compete at Notre Dame’s Alex Wilson Invitational. The Cyclones ran in the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and mile events.

In the 400 meter race, Derek Jones — for the second time in two weeks — ran to a personal record. Jones finished eighth overall with a time of 48.35 seconds. The time is the fastest run by a Cyclone this season.

Three Iowa State runners competed in the mile with Alex Dillenbeck finishing eighth, Brian Llamas came in ninth and Edward Kemboi rounded out the ISU runners in 11th place. 

Joe Gioielli was the lone Cyclone to compete in the 800-meter run. Gioielli finished 11th overall in 1:52.27, marking his fastest time of the year.

Many athletes received top honors along with two Cyclones earning personal records in Cedar Falls at the UNI-Dome Open. 

Ivan Tamba placed second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.94 and Jared Ingram placed 4th with a time of 6.98. The marks were a personal best for Tamba and Ingram.

Jacob Aune recieved first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54 and Brandon Barnes got third with a time of 1:55. 

Christian DeLago won top honors in the mile with a run of 4:20.

Iowa State will be back in action in Ames next weekend for the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
