The lowdown

The ISU women’s basketball team (16-6, 5-6 Big 12) fell to Texas Christian (13-9, 4-6 Big 12) 61-60 on Feb. 5. The Horned Frogs defeated the Cyclones in a back-and-forth game with 15 lead changes.

Neither team scored in the first four minutes of the game until junior guard Brynn Williamson hit a 3-pointer to give Iowa State its first points. The Cyclones went on the lead 28-23 at half time.

It was a different story in the second half. TCU would lead by as much as six points in the final period before winning 61-60 in the last seconds. Guard Donielle Breaux hit a 3-pointer with just under six seconds left to give TCU the lead.

The winning 3-pointer was only the Horned Frogs’ second 3-pointer of the game. Before the final shot, TCU was 1-of-10 on the night from beyond the arc.

Turning point

The game was tied 58-58 with 51 seconds remaining when freshman guard Jadda Buckley missed a jumper for Iowa State. But freshman guard Seanna Johnson made two free throws after a Latricia Lovings foul.

Iowa State would lead 60-58 until Breaux’s winning 3-pointer lifted TCU to a win. Junior guard Nikki Moody would have a chance to win it but turned the ball over under the basket with just one second remaining.

X-factor

Iowa State turned the ball over 16 times during the game. TCU wasn’t far behind with 13 turnovers. But the difference came in the second half when the Cyclones committed nine turnovers compared to the Horned Frogs’ five.
