The Cyclone Hockey team celebrated senior night on Saturday but fell to Central Oklahoma.

Something happened at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena that hasn’t happened since Nov. 9. The No. 9 Cyclones (32-9-3, 14-5-1 CSCHL) lost 6-3 to No. 11 Central Oklahoma (25-14-3). The loss snapped Iowa State’s 12-game winning streak at home.

The Cyclones struck first with a goal by forward Alex Grupe midway through the first period. But taking advantage of a power play, the Bronchos were able to tie the game when UCO forward Riley Spraggs shot the puck into corner of the net passed goalie Matt Cooper later in the first.

Forward Sam Rice gave Central Oklahoma the lead with a goal early in the second period. Penalties again hurt the Cyclones in the second, as UCO forward Rylan Duley added to the Bronchos lead by scoring on a power play. Rice tailed his second goal of the night to round out the period.

In the third, Duley was able to complete the hat trick with two more goals—one coming on a power play. Forwards Seth Serhienko and Kyle Castle scored late in the third. But with only a few minutes left to play in the game, the Cyclones couldn’t mount the comeback.

Next weekend, Feb. 21-23, Iowa State will compete in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League Tournament.
