After 18 holes of the 54-hole Lady Puerto Rico Classic, No. 22 Iowa State is in third place out of 15 teams and eight shots behind first-place Arkansas.

In a round where only five out of 87 golfers finished under par, senior Prima Thammaraks led the Cyclones with a one-under-par round of 71.

Thammaraks was two-over par after her first four holes before bouncing back to card five birdies. She will enter Monday’s second round tied for second place, three shots behind individual leader Emily Tubert of Arkansas.

Junior Chonlada Chayanun and senior Sasikarn On-iam both recorded rounds of 74, good for a tie for 18th place.

On-iam was the only Cyclone to avoid a double-bogey on the day, finishing with three bogies and a birdie against 15 pars.

Team leader in scoring average (72.93), sophomore Cajsa Persson, shot four strokes over her season average, finishing with a 77 in round one. Despite her five-over-par round, Persson recorded four birdies, second-most on the team.
