Kansas leads ISU swimming, diving at the end of day one

At the halfway point of the ISU swimming and diving team’s senior day matchup against Kansas, the Jayhawks led the Cyclones, 75.5-74.5.

The senior day meet was broken up into two days between Friday and Saturday.

Notable event wins by Iowa State included the 1,000 freestyle, in which junior Elizabeth Kleiner touched first with a time of 10:22.59. Sophomore Marissa Engel also earned first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.94.

Senior Imelda Wistey also walked away with a win in the 100 breaststroke in her last meet at the Beyer Hall pool. She recorded a time of 1:04.95.

On the 1-meter diving board, senior Jessica Henderson recorded a first place score of 289.72.

The Cyclones finished the first day of events with junior Amanda Paulson touching first in the 50 freestyle. Freshman Maddie Rastall also came in first in the second heat of the 50 freestyle.

However, Kansas battled back and forth with Iowa State, and the Jayhawks led the Cyclones, 75.5-74.5, at the end of the first day.

The Cyclones will resume action 10 a.m. Saturday in the Beyer Hall pool.
