ISU women’s golf 10 shots back after one round at UCF

After 18 holes, the ISU women’s golf team is tied for eight place and ten shots behind host University of Central Florida at the UCF Challenge.

Sophomore Cajsa Persson, the team’s leader in scoring average, led the way for the Cyclones on Sunday, posting a 1-under-par total of 71 to put her in a tie for ninth place individually.

Persson birdied three of her first five holes of the round to get to 3-under-par but finished with two bogeys and 13 pars.

Junior Chonlada Chayanun and senior Sasikarn On-iam were also in the upper half of the leaderboard after the first round, posting 1-over-par rounds of 73.

Senior Prima Thammaraks and freshman Carmen Vidau rounded out the starting lineup for Iowa State, recording rounds of 75 and 79, respectively.

Fanny Cnops, a junior from UCF, leads the individual competition after posting a 67.

UCF, with a 287 total, leads second-place Miami by five strokes.

The tournament will continue in Eagle Creek Golf Course in Orlando, Fla., with the second round Monday and the third and final round Tuesday.
