The Cyclone Hockey team split the two-game series with Central States Collegiate Hockey League rival Lindenwood this weekend.

After falling 3-2 in overtime against the No. 16 Lions (14-14-2, 9-6 CSCHL) on Saturday, Feb.1, the No. 10 Cyclones (29-9-2, 12-6-0 CSCHL) managed to reverse their fortune on Sunday, Feb. 2, winning 2-1.

In Friday’s game, the Cyclones scored first in the second period with a goal by forward J.P. Kascask at the 9.40 mark. Later in the period, LU forward Kevin Walters tied the game for the Lions, and only a couple of minutes following, LU forward Rock Einersen gave Lindenwood a 2-1 lead with a goal of his own.

The Cyclones re-tied the game in the third period when forward Cory Sellers shot the puck past LU goalie Cody Karpinski. Neither Iowa State nor Lindenwood were able to break the tie in the final seconds of the period, sending the game into overtime.

Overtime didn’t last long, however. The Lions were able to seal the win 54 seconds into the extra period when Einersen fired the puck over goalie Matt Cooper.

In Saturday’s game, the Lions struck first, scoring early in the first period. The Lions’ goal was the only offense shown by both teams until 22 seconds into third period when forward Mark Huber tied the game 1-1.

A goal by forward Jon Feavel—the team’s leader in total points—captured the lead for the Cyclones late in the third. Iowa State was able to hold onto the lead to win 2-1.

Iowa State will be at home next weekend, Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, to face conference rival Illinois.
