The Cyclone Hockey team returned to its winning ways against Central States Collegiate Hockey rival Indiana.

After losing their first two games back from Winter Break, the No. 7 Cyclones (24-7-2, 9-4-0 CSCHL) won a close contest on Friday against the Hoosiers (4-11-1, CSCHL 1-11-1) at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena. Iowa State was able to topples Indiana 3-2 in a shootout.

In the final minutes of the first period, the Cyclones were able to get on the board with a power play goal by defenseman Antti Helanto. The Hoosiers were kept scoreless in the period.

The Hoosiers were able to take advantage of a power play of their own in the second period, scoring on the Cyclones to tie the game 1-1.

Forward Matt Szpak re-captured the lead for the Cyclones with a goal early in the third period. But a late period goal by Indiana forward Jake Novack tied the game once again. With the final minutes of the third period winding down, neither team scored, sending the game into overtime.

With both teams unable to score in overtime, the Cyclones and Hoosiers went into a shootout. At the end of the shootout, the Cyclones were on top.

The Cyclones are 4-0 against the Hoosiers this season.

The Cyclones will continue their series against the Hoosiers Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
