The suspect involved in the Monday road rage incident has been identified as Patrick Allen Stall, 22, of Ames.

Stall was charged Tuesday by ISU Police with harassment in the third degree, aggravated assault and carrying a weapon. The weapon and assault charges are aggravated misdemeanors, while the harassment charge is a simple misdemeanor.

The harassment was charged as simple because no actual threats were yelled to the victims, but profane language was used.

Stall’s initial appearance was filed at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday and bond was set at $5,000 cash only. Stall is still in custody.

Rob Bowers, associate director of public safety, said Stall was previously an ISU student, last enrolled fall 2013.

The incident reportedly began at 6:52 p.m. Monday, Bowers said. The suspect reportedly followed two individuals from Lincoln Way and Grand Avenue to the parking lot near Lied.

Bowers said it is unknown as to why the suspect began following the people in the car.

Bowers said the individuals noted a car following them and was flashing its lights and honking its horn. The individuals stopped in the parking lot by Lied. The suspect then got out of his vehicle, started to approach the individuals in their vehicle and started yelling and asking if they had a problem with him.

The suspect reportedly pulled out a black handgun so the individuals in the other car could see it. The two told police that the suspect did not point the gun at them. The two individuals then drove away.

Bowers said the suspect got back in his car, followed the other car long enough to get out of the parking lot, but then the two cars turned opposite directions.

The two returned to the parking lot near Lied and reported the incident to ISU Police, who Bowers said, first wanted to make sure the two were safe. As they were giving information, police were distributing information to Ames and ISU officers on the streets, Bowers said.

At about 10 p.m. Monday, Stall called the Story County Sheriff’s office saying he understood police were looking for him, Bowers said. Arrangements were made for Stall to drive to the sheriff’s office and meet with the deputy.

The sheriff’s office called ISU Police to inform them the suspect had called to turn himself in and ISU Police filed the charges.

An ISU Alert issued at about 8:15 p.m. did provide some tips, Bowers said.

ISU Police is not releasing any information on the two who reported the incident for safety concerns, Bowers said.
