After two pins, two decisions and one last minute takedown in overtime, Kyven Gadson has found himself against a familiar foe in the finals of the Southern Scuffle.

No. 2 Gadson will square off against No. 1 Scott Schiller of Minnesota in a rematch on Thursday night from the finals of the Harold Nichols Open on Nov. 16. Schiller bested Gadson in that match, getting the 3-2 decision and top spot on the podium.

After securing pins in the first two rounds and two decision victories in the round of 16 and quarterfinal round, it took an overtime period and a counter to give Gadson the victory against J’Den Cox of Missouri and a spot in the finals.

The fifth place match at 174 pounds will pit ISU teammates Tanner Weatherman and Lelund Weatherspoon against one another. Both were in the quarterfinals this morning and lost, putting them in the consolation bracket and creating a face off between the two in their final match.

Iowa State, who is currently in eighth place with 68.5 points, chose to forfeit the match between Weatherman and Weatherspoon.

Gadson, Weatherman and Weatherspoon are the only active wrestlers, as 12 of the 15 Cyclones entered in the open tournament have been eliminated from podium contention.
