Another slow start doomed the ISU wrestling team on Jan. 12, when it hosted No. 4 Oklahoma.

By the time the Cyclones got anything going, it was too late and they fell to the Sooners 27-11, winning only three matches.

The first signs of life came from All-American Mike Moreno, who took on Oklahoma’s Clark Glass in the 165 pounds weight class. Moreno took control of the match early, winning by major decision 13-0.

Iowa State’s No. 2 Kyven Gadson tried to keep the momentum alive in his match, when he took on No. 3 Travis Rutt. It marked his second top-three match in just a 10-day span.

Gadson forced overtime after earning an escape late in the third period and quickly recorded a takedown in overtime, winning the match 3-1.

Quean Smith recorded the other win for the Cyclones, beating Oklahoma’s Ross Larson 13-2.

With the loss, Iowa State fell to 6-2 overall, and 1-1 in the Big 12.
