Iowa State announced Sunday that junior guard K.J. Bluford is leaving the team after transferring to Iowa State in February from Northeast Community College in Nebraska.

Bluford appeared in seven of the Cyclones’ 11 games this season, averaging 2.7 points in 5.4 minutes per game. The junior college transfer said in February when he committed to Iowa State that he hoped to replace 3-point shooter Tyrus McGee this season.

That role has fallen to other players on the ISU roster, and Bluford chose to transfer, seeking more playing time elsewhere.

“I appreciate the time and effort that K.J. gave to our program,” said ISU coach Fred Hoiberg in a news release. “He has elected to transfer to find a program that will allow him more playing time. I wish him the best in the future and will assist him in any way I can.”
