The Lowdown

No. 17 Iowa State defeated No. 23 Iowa 85-82, adding another thriller to the Cy-Hawk Series. 

With 18 seconds remaining in the game Friday night, ISU forward Georges Niang made a scoop reverse layup to put Iowa State ahead 83-82. Then Iowa’s Mike Gesell was fouled on the ensuing possession where he missed two free throws. 

ISU forward Dustin Hogue grabbed the rebound and was fouled, making both free throws to make it 85-82. 

Iowa missed a 3-pointer on the next possession and that was the end of the game. 

Turning Point

With 18 seconds left in the game, Iowa State’s Georges Niang hooked underneath and made a scoop bucket to put Iowa State ahead 83-82. Two free throws from Dustin Hogue after gave Iowa State the win before a missed Iowa 3-pointer.

X Factor

Georges Niang – In the first half, Niang scored 16 points to keep Iowa State in the game at 45-38. Then Niang scored the go-ahead bucket with 18 seconds remaining. 

Niang finished with 24 points on 8-15 shooting and went 8-10 from the free throw line.
