Police identify man pronounced dead after accidental shooting

The Ames Police Department has identified the man pronounced dead after being found with a gunshot wound to the head as Devlin F. Lockman.

Police said in a news release that the accident occurred when 38-year-old Lockman was “handling a loaded, semi-automatic, 9mm handgun.”

The Ames Police said they received a call at 10:31 p.m. on Dec. 20 of a shooting at 4810 Westbend Drive in west Ames. Police then found Lockman with a single gunshot wound to the head. The release stated that he was treated on scene and then transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
