TV Review: ‘Dracula’

Jordan Mains

“Dracula” is a brand-new TV series on NBC. It is about (yes, you guessed it) Dracula, a vampire in disguise as an American entrepreneur named Alexander Grayson.

The dramatic-horror-thriller series takes place in the late 1800s in London. It stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula, and Jessica De Gouw as a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his deceased wife.

The plan for Dracula is to wreak havoc on those that have cursed him with immortality hundreds of years ago. But not wanting anyone to know his true plan, he assumes the identity of Alexander Grayson. Doing this, he attempts to gain the trust of those around him only to take advantage of them later.

In the pilot episode, “Grayson” throws a big party showing off his new science experiment. At the party, Dracula meets a woman that appears to be strangely familiar to him. The woman’s name is Mina Murray, a reincarnation of Dracula’s wife from centuries ago. Dracula falls for her, which in turn starts to distract him from his ultimate plan of destruction.

For starters, the show has plenty of drama, which is good if that is what you are into. There is plenty of romance as well. It almost has a soap-opera-like feel to it with the combination of romance and drama.

Since this show is about a vampire, a good amount of blood is in this series. However, it is not overly excessive by any means. Just stay away if you have a weak stomach to that sort of thing.

This show was not particularly one that I enjoyed, but that does not mean that you will not enjoy it. This is one that most of the ladies would probably enjoy. You may love what a charmer Dracula is. Overall, it is still a better love story than “Twilight.”

If you are interested in watching, tune into NBC at 9 p.m. Central time on Fridays.
