Cyclones end regular season with loss to K-State

The No. 25 ISU volleyball team ended the regular season on a sour note Saturday night getting swept by Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan.

The Cyclones (18-9, 11-5 Big 12) fell to the Wildcats (18-11, 6-10 Big 12) in three-straight sets (21-25, 16-25, 23-25) in their last match of the regular season before looking ahead to the NCAA tournament.

Iowa State was outdone in most stat categories against Kansas State. The Wildcats had 38 kills to the Cyclones’ 32, 32 assists to the Cyclones’ 30, seven service aces to the Cyclones’ two and 43 digs to the Cyclones’ 38.

The Cyclones also had 12 service errors to the Wildcats’ five.

Sophomore right side hitter Mackenzie Bigbee led the way for the Cyclones offensively with nine kills, which was third in the match behind K-State’s Courtney Traxson (11 kills) and Kaitlynn Pelger (10 kills).

Sophomore setter Jenelle Hudson had 21 assists in three sets for an average of seven assists per set, well below her season average of 11.26 assists per set.

With the regular season behind them the Cyclones will now be focusing on the NCAA tournament set to start on Dec. 5. The selection show will be on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
