Mississippi Heat coming to the M Shop

Luke Danielson

Chicago based group Mississippi Heat will be performing in Ames on Wednesday November 13th. The American contemporary blues combo band will perform live on stage at the Maintenance Shop at 8:00 p.m. with the doors opening at 7:30 p.m. for the general public.

Mississippi Heat will be performing right from the start as there is not an opening act, so those attending the concert will need to show up on time otherwise risk missing the concert.

The upcoming concert will cost $12 for advance tickets and $14 for tickets purchased the day of the show, with Iowa State students who flash their student ID getting a discount to $7.

The five member band was originally founded in 1991 in Chicago, Illinois, and was influenced by early electric blues of the 1950’s. The band has been through multiple changes throughout the past 22 years, having gone through 11 different members before ending up where it is today with four new members and one of the founding members still performing. But, even through all of the changes, Mississippi Heat has been able to keep certain elements of the band’s winning formula constant.

The band’s current line-up includes Pierre Lacocque, the original founding member, on the harmonica, Inetta Visor as lead vocalist, Kenny Smith on the drums, Joseph Veloz on bass, and Billy Satterfield on guitar. To this day, the band has released ten different albums, with the most recent having been released last year, many of which have been awarded “Best Chicago Blues CD of the Year” and “Best Blues Production of the Year”.
