After grabbing two wins Friday night against Midland and West Virginia, the ISU wrestling team came away from the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum with one title, and several second-place finishes.

No. 4 Mike Moreno won five-straight matches and defeated Minnesota’s Danny Zilverberg 9-3 in the 165-pound championship.

Kyven Gadson, Gabe Moreno and Tanner Weatherman all made it to the championship match but fell to their respective Minnesota opponents.

John Nicholson, who also made it to the 157-pound championship match, withdrew before competing in the final event. ISU officials said it was precautionary, in order to keep him healthy for the remainder of the season.

Iowa State found success early, placing 12 wrestlers in the quarterfinals, and 10 in the semifinals.

The Cyclones will compete next Sunday in a dual match against Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
