After a scan of his knee today, it was shown that Melvin Ejim could be back for the Nov. 17 game against Michigan here at Hilton Coliseum, but it’s not a strong possibility according to Vic Miller, the ISU mens basketball team’s trainer.

According to Miller, it depends how Ejim feels after his workout increases following today.

“You can say that Sunday isn’t ridiculous or no hope whatsoever, but it’s not like it’s a strong possibility,” Miller said. “We’ll have to see how he progresses, see how he feels after the workouts and after we get his volume up higher with dry land stuff.”

Ejim will start working out on the court after being restricted to pool workouts and riding a stationary bike for his rehab thus far.

“Healing is occurring so things are going really well,” Miller said. “We can start dry land stuff with him with the low-profile brace that we got for him so he’ll start doing that stuff and we’ll see how he is getting him into things doing basketball-specific drills.”

It was on Oct. 30 that Ejim injured his left knee in practice and it’s now been 13 days since the injury has occurred. The original diagnosis was a four-to-six week injury, but since Ejim has started his rehab, that window has considerably shortened.

“It’s been considerably moved up from the original four to six [weeks] there’s no doubt about that,” Miller said of Ejim’s original injury timeline. “I think we just finished two weeks. This next Tuesday would be  three weeks. Maybe the three short of the four weeks somewhere. I don’t think there’s any reason after a week and half or so why he wouldn’t be in there, that would be plenty of time.”
