Women’s golf finishes fourth at invitational

The ISU women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Tuesday in Austin, Texas.

Sophomore Cajsa Persson led the Cyclones with two three-under-par rounds to start the tournament. She went even in the final round to finish with an overall score of 210, breaking ISU’s 54-hole scoring mark. Persson finished tied for fifth place, sharing the spot with Denver’s Tonje Daffinrud.

Persson’s consecutive rounds of 69 in the first two rounds marked her as the only player in ISU history to record back-to-back sub-70 rounds.

Senior Sasikarn On-iam finished the final round at one-over-par after previous rounds of two-under-par and even. She finished the tournament with an overall score of 215 to tie for 14th place.

Junior Chonlada Chayanun fought her way back after an opening round of three-over-par to card three-under-par for the second round. She finished the final round even and tied for 17th place with an overall score of 216, one stroke behind On-iam.

UCLA won the tournament with a team total of 838. Arizona State earned second place with 848 and Miami took third place with 859. Iowa State’s overall score of 862 earned the team a fourth place finish.

The Cyclones will head to Wilmington, N.C., on Oct. 25 for The Landfall Tradition.
