After day one at the ITA Regionals, the ISU tennis team failed to earn a qualifier to advance in singles play.

Ana Gasparovic finished the first round with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Lauren Wagner of Nebraska. However, Julia Courter of Minnesota beat Gasparovic 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of the day.

With the loss, Gasparovic did not qualify for the main draw because winning twice was necessary to advance.

Samantha Budai lost her first round against Rongrong Leenabanchong of Tulsa in a tight match with scores of 6-3, 4-6, 12-14. Budai’s fell in her second match of the day as well, this time to Kansas State’s Maria Panaite, 3-6, 7-5, 10-5.

Despite Budai’s losses eliminating her from singles competition, she will still play doubles with Ksenia Pronina.

Pronina will also be playing singles beginning Friday with the rest of the opponents qualified being named later.
