The ISU volleyball team defeated Baylor 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The match marked the start of the Big 12 season for the Cyclones (7-4, 1-0 Big 12).

With Saturday’s win, Iowa State has now defeated Baylor in each of the last eight meetings between the two teams.

The Cyclones glided through the first set 25-14 thanks largely to five kills from junior outside hitter Victoria Hurtt and six digs from senior libero Kristen Hahn.

Baylor (8-9, 0-1 Big 12) had just eight kills in 26 attempts in the first set, while Iowa State had 14 in 26 attempts.

The second set was closer, but the Cyclones prevailed 25-19 before capping off the victory by taking the third set 25-17.

Offensively, Iowa State was led by sophomore right side hitter Mackenzie Bigbee and Hurtt, who tallied 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Jenelle Hudson finished the night with 39 assists, setting up all but three of the Cyclones’ kills.

Hahn finished the day with a match-best 21 digs.

The Cyclones’ next match is set to take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Texas Tech.
