Inmate Glen Smith, 50, died before being sentenced for second degree murder charge

A Story County inmate charged with second degree murder died Saturday afternoon.

Glen Smith, 50, complained of chest pains to the Story County Sheriff’s Office jail staff around noon on Saturday. Smith then became unconscious, according to a news release from the Story County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith was taken to Story County Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 1:04 p.m.

The Story County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating his death, but initial indications are that Smith died from a heart attack.

Smith was scheduled for sentencing on Monday for his murder conviction.
