Cyclones compete at U.S.A. Outdoor Championships

Cyclone track and field athletes from the past, present and future came together to compete in the U.S.A. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 20-23.

Former Cyclones Meaghan Nelson, Dani Stack and Lisa (Koll) Uhl raced against each other in the women’s 10,000 meter. Uhl, a four-time national champion for the Cyclones, placed ninth in the long-distance race, followed by Nelson in 11th place and Stack at 13th place.

Anna Holdiman, an incoming freshman running unattached, took second in the junior women’s 3,000 meter race. Courtney Hutchinson, also competing unattached, took thirteenth in the junior women’s shot put with a throw of 44-10.25.

Throwers Danielle Frere and Christina Hillman both had strong showings in the senior women’s shot put, as both finished in the top ten. Hillman took ninth place with a throw of 53-11.25 while Frere finished in seventh with a throw of 55.00.

Redshirt sophomore Cameron Ostrowski finished the weekend strong for the Cyclones, taking a fifth-place tie in the senior men’s high jump with a jump of 7-02 1/2. The high jump was won by Erik Kynar, a silver medalist in the high jump during the 2012 Olympics.
