The ISU hockey team is coming off a season in which it was the runner-up in the conference tournament and made an appearance in the third round of nationals.

ISU coach Al Murdoch, who began at Iowa State in the 1969-70 season, has been behind the Cyclones’ bench for 44 seasons.

J.P. Kascsak led the team in scoring with 41 points (22 goals, 19 assists). Jon Feavel was right behind him with 40 points (25 goals, 15 assists). Kascsak will be a junior next season, and Feavel will be a senior.

ISU goaltender Matt Cooper shocked the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) last season after playing backup to Scott Ismond and Paul Karus for most of the season. Cooper got his chance against Oklahoma on Feb. 2 and led the Cyclones to a sweep of Lindenwood, who they had not beaten previously since 2008.

Cooper continued his hot streak with two shutouts at the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) tournament and a victory at the ACHA tournament. He finished the season with a 9-1-1 record and a .956 save percentage.

The ISU hockey season lasts from September to March. The team plays all of its home games at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena, which is just south of the Wallace and Wilson residence halls.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and $5 for children.
