Police investigate shooting at Ames apartment complex

The Ames Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at an apartment complex on Mortensen Road on April 7, 2013.

According to a news release, Ames police officers responded to a report of a gunshot at approximately 12:30 p.m. on April 7 at 4719 Mortensen Road, Apt. 207,. When officers arrived, they spoke with witnesses, who said they heard one gunshot, the news release stated. 

The release said a preliminary investigation revealed that a male entered the apartment and “apparently got into a struggle with another male in the apartment.”

One shot was fired, and the bullet went through the interior walls of the apartment and traveled through the hallway, hitting a cabinet in the apartment across the hall, the release reported. It also stated no one was injured in the incident.

According to the release, witnesses said they saw an African-American male run from the building after they heard the shot. 

The release stated names are being withheld pending further investigation.
