The Big 12 Conference announced Thursday that ISU sophomore Chonlada Chayanun was named the Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for March.

The award is the first for Chayanun, as well as the first awarded to a Cyclone golfer since 2011.

“I feel great because when I was freshman I wanted to be there and now I did it,” Chayanun said. “I am really happy.”

Chayanun is a Thailand native who came to play at Iowa State in 2011. As a freshman, she played in all 12 tournaments and tallied the third-best stroke average for a freshman in school history with a 76.69 average.

Chayanun is currently ranked No. 130 in the nation by Golfweek. She recently recorded her best collegiate finish and tied for second with a 223 at the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitationa, marking her lowest score of the season and was just three strokes shy from her career best.

The Cyclones will begin tournament play at the Marsh Landing Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. on Monday.
