Iowa State will attempt to build off its last win against West Virginia and end the season with a three-match win streak this weekend when it takes on Kansas State and Kansas.

The Cyclones (8-12, 1-6 Big 12) travel to Manhattan, Kan., on Friday, April 19, 2013, to take on No. 52 Kansas State (7-10, 1-6) after the Wildcats dropped two straight meets to Baylor and TCU.

Two days later, the Cyclones trek to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Jayhawks (8-9, 0-7) who are currently riding a six-game losing streak.

With the regular season coming to a close and the Big 12 tournament beginning Thursday, April 25, ISU coach Armando Espinosa is focusing on keeping his team healthy while adjusting to the sporadic weather conditions.

“We’re just trying to stay healthy,” Espinosa said. “Knowing what the weather is going to do makes it tough, so there’s not a lot you can do when you’re constantly changing from outside to inside. As long as we can get into some kind of groove and get some hitting done, we’ll be good.”

Sophomore Ksenia Pronina is looking forward to the chance to improve her game this weekend after she lost to West Virginia’s Hailey Barrett in two sets.

“It’s the last two matches before the tournament and last week I didn’t play very well, so I just want to improve and show that I can play the way I practice and not worry,” Pronina said.

The meet against the Wildcats also holds Big 12 tournament implications for the Cyclones.

“I think the meet against Kansas State is very important because if we can get that win it will give us a better seeding in the tournament, so we’ll have a better chance to win our first meet,” Pronina said. “Both matches are important and we beat Kansas last year, so we know what to expect with them.”

This weekend’s meets will end the regular season.
