Cyclones oust Red Raiders 67-52

The Cyclones were able to vault a first half struggle to another home victory against the Red Raiders Saturday, winning 67-52. Chelsea Poppens led the Cyclones (15-5, 6-4 Big 12) with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

The Lowdown

With early foul trouble, seniors Anna Prins and Poppens were taken out with 12 minutes left in the first half. The Cyclones hung on and were down by four at the half.

With the return of Prins and Poppens, there were no breaks for the Cyclones, as the extended their lead and eventual victory by 15 points.

X Factor

Poppens and Prins duo, with hint of Hallie Christofferson: With a combined ten minutes of playing time, Prins and Poppens came out of the first half with over ten minutes left.

While Prins and Poppenswere out, Christofferson lead the Cyclones with 11 points, four rebounds and four blocks in the first half.

When Prins and Poppens returned, the Cyclones took the lead back from the Red Raiders (16-6, 6-4 Big 12) for the first time since 16:15 left in the first half and never looked back.

Turning Point

The second half: The game took a complete 180 degree flip in the second half. With the early foul trouble, Prins and Poppens were unable to make themselves a threat in the first portion of the game.

When the dynamic duo returned, the Red Raiders lost the lead and the Cyclones ran with it. The Cyclones outscored their opponent 42-23 in the second half, obtaining a lead as great as 17 at one point.
