Iowa State falls to West Virginia despite season-high scores

Iowa State lost to West Virginia 196.150 to 194.825 in the programs’ first-ever meeting as conference foes.

The team score of 194.825 for the ISU gymnastics team (2-5, 0-2 Big 12) turned out to be a season-high, beating its previous mark of 194.775 from its loss to No. 2 Oklahoma on Friday.

The Cyclones’ first rotation was the uneven bars, during which they scored a 48.7.

Iowa State continued the meet on vault, its lowest scoring event this season. However, it went on to score a season-high 48.625.

On floor exercise, Iowa State’s third rotation, freshman Sara Townsend fell on her final pass and scored a 9.05. The Cyclones finished a 48.575 total on floor.

The trouble continued for Iowa State in its final rotation, the balance beam. Junior Camille Santerre-Gervais fell off the beam and scored a 8.975.

The Cyclones finished balance beam with another season high score of 48.875.
