Cyclones fall to No. 2 Cowboys at Hilton

The ISU wrestling team was defeated  25-9 on Sunday afternoon by No. 2 Oklahoma State, ending the team’s five-dual winning streak.

Sunday’s dual began at 174 pounds, where No. 20 Tanner Weatherman managed to compete with No. 1 Chris Perry of Oklahoma State, but eventually fell to him 3-0.

No. 17 Boaz Beard earned the first victory of the day for the Cyclones, upsetting No. 10 Chris Chionuma 7-2 at 184 pounds and tying the dual at 3-3.

At 197 pounds, No. 9 Kyven Gadson scored a two-point takedown with under 10 seconds left in the third period, securing a 3-1 decision against No. 6 Blake Rosholt of Oklahoma State.

ISU redshirt senior Matt Gibson scored two points with under 10 seconds left against No. 3 Alan Gelogaev at heavyweight, knotting the match at five before Gelogaev was given the win due to riding-time. Gibson is now 0-3 lifetime against Gelogaev.

OSU freshman Eddie Klimara defeated Ryak Finch 11-2 in a one-sided match at 125 pounds.

At 133 pounds, No. 3 Jon Morrison of Oklahoma State won by injury default against John Meeks, increasing the Cowboys’ lead to 16-6.

Luke Goettl scored a go-ahead takedown with under 90 seconds left in the match at 141 pounds and was able to hold on for a 5-4 decision against OSU sophomore Julian Feikert.

Following the Goettl win, Max Mayfield dropped a 7-1 decision to No. 1 Jordan Oliver at 149 pounds, giving the Cowboys a commanding 19-9 lead.

At 157 pounds, No. 9 Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State earned a 4-2 decision against Logan Molina.

In the last match of the day at 165 pounds, OSU junior No. 3 Tyler Caldwell earned a 8-2 decision against No. 19 Michael Moreno, ending the dual in a 25-9 Oklahoma State victory.
