Consistency and experience paved the way for the ISU women’s golf team on Tuesday as it finished fifth at the Central District Invitational with a three-round score of 897.

Junior, Sasikarn On-iam, led the Cyclones with 223 strokes in three rounds, which placed her at 11th individually.

“This meet, I was a lot more stable,” On-iam said. “I know I can’t make a birdie from the tee off. I tried to keep everything on that one shot in front of me.”

On-iam opened the meet with 73 strokes in the first round, followed by 74 in the second and 76 in the third.

“My putting in the first two rounds was good, but the third round wasn’t. Putting was really the only bad thing,” On-iam said. “Since it was a familiar course, I didn’t feel much pressure.”

Freshman, Cajsa Persson, fired a three-round score of 224, concluding the third round with a career-low 71. Persson tied for 12th individually.

“After the second round, we had a talk with the whole team and we said that we need to go in as winners,” Persson said. “The winner attitude changed the whole game.”

Persson (73–80–71) said that her mindset gave her trouble in the second round.

“I went in with a negative mindset that affected my score,” Persson said. “I had a bad mindset that got me bogeys.”

Persson said the biggest difference between her second- and third-round scores was changing her attitude toward the game.

“I had another mindset [in the third round]. I hit the shots like I knew how well I could hit them,” Persson said. “When I do that, I know I can shoot low scores.”

According to Golfstat, six of the 12 competing teams were ranked in the nation’s top 45. No. 31 Southern Methodist University (888) finished first in the tournament followed by No. 13 Vanderbilt with 890 strokes.
