The Cyclones have shown an inability to win back-to-back games during the regular season, but now they are on a five-game winning streak and have one more game to play this weekend.

The No. 12 ISU hockey team (22-15-3) won against No. 7 Illinois (22-10-2) 4-0 in the second round of the CSCHL tournament on Saturday to advance to the championship game on Sunday.

ISU goalie Matt Cooper stopped all 34 IU shots for his second shutout of the tournament and his fourth of the season. Cooper is 8-0 this season.

There was no shortage of penalties in Saturday’s game. The Cyclones had 20 penalty minutes and the Illini had 14.

The scoring started in the first period when ISU defenseman Antti Helanto sent a pass to forward J.P. Kascsak for a breakaway. Kascsak put the puck past IU goaltender Nick Clarke to put the Cyclones up 1-0.

After a scoreless second period, Kascsak scored on another breakaway chance in the third period to give the Cyclones the 2-0 lead. ISU defenseman Brandon Clark scored later in the third to give the Cyclones a 3-0 lead and Helanto scored an empty-net goal to give the Cyclones their late 4-0 lead.

ISU forward Austin Parle also had an assist in the game.

The Cyclones play in the CSCHL championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST. They will play the winner of the game between No. 4 Ohio and No. 9 Lindenwood.
