ISU tennis loses opener to rival Hawkeyes

The ISU women’s tennis team opened the spring season with a 6-1 loss against Iowa on Saturday in the Cy-Hawk rivalry.

The Cyclones lost two of the three doubles matches, giving the Hawkeyes the doubles point. Iowa State’s top two singles players Ksenia Pronina and Simona Cacciuttolo lost in singles in straight sets.

Pronina lost the No. 1 singles match (6-0, 6-1) and Cacciuttolo ost the No. 2 singles match (6-2, 6-2). Meghan Cassens lost the No. 3 singles match in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 6-3).

Senior Jenna Langhorst came from behind to win the No. 5 singles match in three sets (1-6, 6-4, 6-1). Ana Gasparovic was defeated in straight sets in the No. 4 singles match (6-0, 6-0).

Emma Waites, a junior, lost in straight sets in the No. 6 singles match (6-1, 6-4).

Iowa State is at home again in its next two meets on Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. against Marquette and Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. against Western Michigan.
