Day two of the 50th anniversary of the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill., concluded on Sunday.

Following session one on Saturday, seven Cyclones were still competing for third place or better, but none of them managed to reach that goal on Sunday.

ISU redshirt sophomore Kyven Gadson earned a spot in the consolation championship at 197 pounds after defeating the third- and fourth-seeded wrestlers in that bracket. Gadson faced sixth-seeded Taylor Meeks of Oregon State in the consolation championship, whom he lost to 8-6 en route to a fourth-place finish.

Gadson went 5-2 during the tournament and is now 11-2 on the season.

Among other notable Cyclone efforts on Sunday are redshirt sophomores Michael Moreno (165) and Mikey England (174) and redshirt freshman Tanner Weatherman (174).

All three fell short in their quest for a consolation berth, but England and Weatherman still managed to place in the tournament. England finished eighth and Weatherman finished sixth, both at 174 pounds.

The Cyclones finished 17th as a team at the Midlands with 32.5 points. Illinois placed first in the team standings with 99.5 points.

Iowa State’s next competition is a dual meet at Oklahoma on Saturday night.
