The ISU women’s golf team begins its second meet in Golf, Ill., as it competes Monday and Tuesday in the Windy City Collegiate Classic.

After a first-place finish at its opening meet, the team is excited to try and prove itself once again to its competition.

Iowa State will compete against Big 12 teams such as Texas Tech, Texas Christian and Oklahoma State, as well as many teams from other conferences.

“There will be quite a few Big 12 teams, so it will give us another chance to see where we stack up,” said coach Christie Martens.

This may prove to be a very competitive meet as the ISU women’s golf team goes up against some of their steepest competition.

“The first-, second- and sixth-ranked teams in the country will be [competing in the Windy City Collegiate Classic], it should be a good test for us,” Martens said.

Prima Thammaraks said she was excited for the meet for both the fun of the tournament, as well as the amount of good teams that attend.

“I played really well [at the Windy City meet] my freshman year and last year,” Thammaraks said.

After playing consistently in her first ISU meet and coming in with the best individual score of the ISU women’s golf team, freshman Cajsa Persson is excited to prove herself again.

“I’m so excited for [the Windy City Invitational],” Persson said. “It’s always fun to be in tournaments.”

This meet takes place just outside of Chicago at the Glen View Club in Golf, Ill. This course has been host to five Western Golf championships.

The team enjoys this meet for the strong competition, but the location also allows the team a chance for some fun and bonding in the city.

“It’s so fun,” Thammaraks said. “We get to shop Chicago and bond as a team.”

Both coach Martens and Thammaraks describe the Windy City Collegiate Classic as one of their favorite tournaments.

“It’s a great time of year to be playing the Midwest. We’re really looking forward to it,” Martens said.

The team heads in with confidence after a strong finish and a first-place trophy in its first meet of the season, the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational.

The meet will begin Monday and conclude Tuesday.
