Cyclones continue Big 12 play with sweep of TCU

The ISU volleyball team continued the second half of its Big 12 schedule with a sweep of Texas Christian on Saturday afternoon.

No. 22 Iowa State (13-7, 7-3 Big 12) swept TCU (13-9, 2-7) in straight sets (25-16, 27-25, 25-17) in its first-ever match in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cyclones began the second half of its Big 12 schedule with a 3-1 victory against No. 17 Kansas on Wednesday. 

Iowa State was closely contested in the second set, but ended on a 7-3 run to go into intermission with a 2-0 lead. After the break the Cyclones were able to close out their sixth sweep of the season.

The Cyclones hit .206 on the afternoon, and were led by Victoria Hurtt and Jamie Straube, who contributed 15 and 12 kills in the match. 

Libero Kristen Hahn had eight digs in the first set of the match and ended with 14 digs. Overall, five different players reached double-digit dig totals including Hahn, Janelle Hudson (14), Caitlin Nolan (11), Rachel Hockaday (10) and Alison Landwehr (10). 

The team will have a break in its conference schedule on Tuesday when the Cyclones travel to South Dakota to face South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Iowa State has six remaining conference matches.
